SOFT RIOT

Soft Riot is the project of Glasgow-based, Canadian-British synth artist Jack Duckworth (JJD). Based in this fair city for around seven years, Soft Riot is renowned in the European underground synth/post-punk scene for his signature sound, which showcases his unique, auteur approach to the “darkwave/synth” genre, roping in elements of synthpop, italo disco and EBM with an indie sensibility gleaned from his younger days of being involved in the North American underground hardcore/punk scene in the 1990s. Glasgow’s Possession Records along with Dutch label Wave Tension Records have recently released Soft Riot’s tenth album “No.”in vinyl LP, digipak CD and digital formats.

GRGR

GrGr is a queer, Munich-based synth/punk artist whose music takes from the German “Neue Deutsche Welle” school of post-punk and minimal synth, but also with roots in the Gameboy/chiptune genre. GrGr’s second album “Kopf” was released in November 2022, taking in today’s socio-political issues to form an energetic and musically diverse sound, more lately with greater emphasis on the guitar compared to the reprogrammed Gameboys that GrGr has always had in the root of his sound. The result is minimal wave meets synth-pop — with punky moments that follow other more thoughtful ones. This will be GrGr’s first show in Glasgow, and indeed his first in the UK.

DIRT BROOKS
